What do you need to bring to your appointment?
- Current government issued photo ID
- Original and copies of all documents you need notarized
- Documents filled out (but not signed or dated)
- Second witness (depending on the case)
What does a Notary actually do?
When you get a document notarized, the Notary Public will typically:
- Verify your identity
- Confirm that you are signing voluntarily
- Confirm you appear to understand what you are signing
- Witness you physically signing the document
- Attach their signature, stamp/seal and sometimes a notarial certificate to the document
- Record the details of the signing for future reference
A Notary Public does not:
- Review the entire document for correct content
- Give legal advice
- Vouch for the truth of what the document says
